JOB DETAILS:

Petroleum Supply Specialist

Job Description

Like all the cars out on the road, the Army National Guard can't run without fuel. And it's the Petroleum Supply Specialist who makes sure we keep moving. As an Army National Guard Petroleum Supply Specialist you will ensure the proper handling, storage, and shipment of petroleum-based products such as oil, fuel, and compressed gas. These are skills you will learn that could lead directly to a lucrative civilian career with oil refineries, pipeline companies, and tanker truck and ship lines.

Petroleum Supply Specialists primarily supervise and manage the reception, storage, and shipping of bulk or packaged petroleum products. This may include operating specialized pumping equipment to load trucks, ships, trains, and aircraft; selecting and submitting samples of petroleum-based products for testing; performing petroleum and water accounting activities; testing petroleum samples for contamination; repairing specialized equipment; and being knowledgeable about facility safety procedures and storage guidelines.

Earn while you learn

As an Army National Guard Petroleum Supply Specialist, you will learn these valuable job skills while getting up to a $20,000 enlistment bonus, earning a regular paycheck, and qualifying for tuition assistance. Instead of paying to learn these skills, get paid to learn. The Army National Guard even offers certified apprenticeship programs for some specialties in this occupation.

Major duties

After Basic Training, where you will learn fundamental Soldiering skills, you will attend approximately eight weeks of Advanced Individual Training that includes a combination of hands-on and classroom training. This training will prepare you for your duties that include:

Operating aircraft refueling systems and equipment, as well as pumps, pipelines, and tanker equipment

Determining source of product contamination in storage areas and pipelines

Directing reclamation and disposition for petroleum products

                   Assuring adherence to safety procedures

Maintaining an efficient, safe, and clean work environment

Supervising aircraft refueling and defueling operations

                   401(k)-type savings plan

Requirements

High School Diploma or GED (If you do not have a diploma or GED, you may still apply - ask a recruiter about how the Army National Guard can help you earn your GED.)

Must be between the ages of 17 and 42

Must be able to pass a physical exam and meet legal and moral standards

Must meet citizenship requirements (see www.1-800-GO-GUARD.com for details)
